Today I got in big trouble with the humans….
Yesterday, my humans bought me a nice harness, since I can escape from every collar ever made. There was one problem, though. It was too small. Tonight, they had to go to the store to exchange it and get some yummy food to eat. So, while they were gone, I stayed in the neighbor’s dog kennel. It’s a really nice, big kennel and they said I could use it any time I needed to until my fence collar comes in. Their big bird dog rarely uses it anymore.
So I was out in the kennel and I got lonely and started howling that hound dog howl. The next thing I know, some other humans were complaining and the neighbor humans were getting in trouble because of my loud mouth. My humans weren’t happy, and felt really badly for the neighbors.
I guess I have a lot to learn still about living around all these humans. I won’t need to go back to the other kennel again, so at least now the only humans I’ll cause problems for are my own. I sure hope I can do better.

Personality Quirks
I have a few personality quirks…. Things that make me, well… me. It’s been fun watching the humans discover them.
I’m a lickaholic. I can’t help it. If you’re petting me, I’ve gotta lick ya!
I like to pretend that I’m a cat and scoot along the floor to rub my back against the front of the sofa, or walk under the coffee table or the piano bench to give my back a good scratching.
I have a fear of doors. I don’t know what it is about them, but I’m afraid to go outside, or to come back inside. Once I’m out or in, I’m fine, but the actual walking through the doorway…. just can’t bring myself to do it. Not even liver has the power to make me step over that threshhold.
The humans are trying to teach me not to jump up on people, especially the short one. If I jump up on Short One, she topples over and doesn’t like it very much. I just want to play! Oh well, I’m trying, but sometimes, it’s hard not to jump up on people. I get so excited to see them.
Home For Good
Well, it took a few days, but I’m finally home. Technically, I was home before now, but after staying here for a couple of hours, I decided that I needed one last grand adventure in my life as a free dog…. so I escaped! I won’t go into the boring details. Let’s just say that I went out to sow some wild oats one last time and discovered that I’d already been threshed. Folks, there are some serious Marty-bits missing down there!
Anyway, I finally decided to wander home, all on my own and man, I don’t think leaving was such a good idea. The humans were beside themselves when I wandered back into the driveway (just as they were getting ready to leave). I’ve never seen humans so happy. I think they may have missed me.
I’ll try not to do that again! It’s good to be home.

Hi, everybody!
Hi, everybody! Let me introduce myself. My name is Marty. I’m a red and white hound dog mix and a few days ago, my world was turned upside down. You see, my human decided she didn’t want me anymore and the next thing I knew, I was at the pound, living in a small, dirty, concrete cage with a bunch of other dogs. I was pretty scared there. You see, we don’t have a nice, friendly, no-kill shelter here, so my days were numbered! I tried to act friendly and cheerful whenever someone would come by, but mostly, I just stood around and looked frightened.
That’s all history now, though. I’ve found a new group of humans and tomorrow I get to go home with them after my visit to the vet (I’m a little nervous about that, but hopefully it won’t be too bad).
So that brings me here, to this blog. I’m going to write about what it’s like coming from the pound to a new home, adjusting to life with new humans and another dog. I’ll try and put up a photo every day as well. Naturally, I can’t today, but starting tomorrow I will!
I’m sure there will be an adjustment period, and it might be rough at times, but hopefully this blog and this new chapter in my life will be a tail-wagging good time for all.
Stay tuned and see how it all unfolds.
